The Importance of International Cooperation for the INSTC Development Was Discussed at Innoprom 2023

The international industrial exhibition Innoprom 2023 has finished in Ekaterinburg. The largest industrial, trade and export exhibition site in Russia brought together representatives from around 50 countries, including Iran, India, Armenia, the United Arab Emirates and the CIS countries.

In 2023, sustainable production and its renewal strategy was announced as a topic of the exhibition. The main areas on the agenda included metalworking, digital industry, transport engineering, energy technologies, new materials, industrial IT, medical equipment, urban technologies and components manufacturing.

The representatives of the international companies and government agencies discussed the important role of the International North-South Transport Corridor in providing global industrial stability at the round table “Industrial Cooperation of SCO Members Countries in the Era of Global Challenges”. This requires both international business integration and state support at the global level.

Following up the discussion, Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, announced that the Technologies and Logistics Union had been registered in Russia. It will bring together SEZs of Russia and friendly countries. This instrument of technological cooperation will facilitate the coordination of efforts in interaction and logistics and help to remove a part of administrative barriers. The activities of this non-profit organization will contribute to deepening Russia's trade, economic and transport and logistics cooperation with the countries of the Caspian region interested in the INSTC.

Sergey Milushkin, the Director General of the Management Company of the Caspian Cluster of SEZs, also emphasized the need for the international cooperation of SEZs when presenting the Technologies and Logistics Union.

– From the very first year of our eight-years’ work on developing industries in the south of Russia, in the Caspian region, we realized that all the products had to be exported. There were no shipping lines on the Caspian Sea. From 2020, we have been implementing the construction of the Port Special Economic Zone, which will become the largest logistics hub on the Caspian Sea. The task of the Union is to establish closer technological cooperation, to look for solutions, which may be implemented in the form of separate technological chains in SEZs of Russia and friendly countries. To date, a lot of work has been done together with partners from Iran, India, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. We would be pleased to share with the Union all the experience we have gained in the recent years, – said Sergey Milushkin.

Another important topic of the forum was the participation of Chinese companies in the III Russian-Chinese Forum, held in parallel with the Innoprom exhibition to expand co-operation between Russian regions and Chinese provinces.

– China is one of Russia’s most important trading partners. The cargo turnover between our countries has increased by 29 per cent compared to the last year, – said Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, in his speech at the Forum's plenary session.

As an example of successful investment cooperation, he mentioned the Astrakhan Region, where three 15 MW solar power plants have been built and put into service with the support of the Chinese companies. Chinese investors are also implementing a project in the industrial Special Economic Zone Lotus: a soot factory is being designed there.

As the forum showed, the relevance of developing new logistics routes for transporting industrial products is the main topic after the manufacturing of these products, because logistics affects the final cost of goods and, in some areas, the quality of the product. Participants from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and other countries at various venues spoke about the need to ensure quality constant deliveries of products. At the round table on the development of international transport corridors, the Director General of the Caspian Cluster Management Company shared the experience of interaction with Iranian, Indian and Turkmen partners.
